Overview

This is a pure-native ADBC driver for IBM Netezza that speaks the Netezza protocol (HSV2 handshake + DBOS binary result stream) directly over TCP/TLS — no ODBC, no nzpy, no libpq. It supports IBM Cloud Netezza Performance Server (NPS 11) and NPS 7.2, reads and writes Apache Arrow RecordBatches, and ships as a self-contained binary with OpenSSL linked in.

What it does differently

No ODBC, no nzpy

The HSV2 handshake and DBOS result stream are implemented in the driver, so there is no Netezza ODBC driver or Python client to install or version-match.

Binary results, straight into Arrow

Netezza's DBOS tuple stream is decoded directly into Arrow column buffers, and NUMERIC maps to decimal128(p,s) with no string detour.

Bulk ingest via external tables

Arrow RecordBatches are loaded through Netezza external-table load, with a batched INSERT fallback.

TLS from NPS 7.2 to NPS 11

sslmode from prefer to verify-full, with a configurable minimum TLS version for older NPS 7 servers limited to TLS 1.1.

Authentication

  • Netezza username / password (cleartext, MD5 or SHA-256 digest, negotiated by the server)
  • TLS with sslmode prefer, require, verify-ca or verify-full
  • Refuse to send passwords over unencrypted connections

Connect from your language

The driver loads by name across every ADBC client. Pick your language:

query.py
import adbc_driver_manager.dbapi as dbapi
import pandas as pd

with dbapi.connect(driver="arpenz",
                   db_kwargs={"uri": "netezza://dbuser:<password>@host:5480/appdb?sslmode=verify-full"}) as conn:
    # Arrow-backed dtypes, no Python-object columns
    df = pd.read_sql("SELECT * FROM admin.orders", conn, dtype_backend="pyarrow")

Install the IBM Netezza driver

install.sh
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/arpe-io/adbc-drivers/main/install.sh \
  | sh -s -- arpenz --license /path/to/your.lic
